Associate Professor of Biostatistics and Epidemiology named Summer at Census Scholar

Published: Sunday, July 16, 2023

Congratulations to Dr. Sixia Chen, Associate Professor of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, for becoming Oklahoma’s first statistical/biostatitical Summer at Census Scholar!

Summer at Census brings together nationally recognized scholars from diverse fields and Census Bureau researchers in presenting their research. The scholars, who engage in collaborative research with Census Bureau researchers, then visit the United States Census Bureau and present a seminar based on their project.

Only July 16th, Dr. Chen will present his seminar, “Analytic Tools for Handling Nonprobability Samples,” exploring data integration methods to improve nonprobability sampling.

Dr. Chen’s abstract reads:

Nonprobability samples have been used frequently in practice due to cost and time efficiency. Using nonprobability sample along without further adjustment may lead to biased results. Data integration by combining nonprobability sample with probability sample is an effective way to reduce selection bias of nonprobability sample. In this short course, we will discuss some commonly used data integration methods including mass imputation, calibration, propensity score weighting, doubly robust methods and multiple robust methods. Furthermore, we will also cover some machine learning based methods. Simulation study and real data applications will also be presented.

Please join us in wishing Dr. Chen luck as he presents this important work!
