Race to Resilience: Pottawatomie County's Bold Move for Better Public Health

Published: Friday, February 2, 2024

We're thrilled to celebrate a groundbreaking collaboration in the heart of our community—The Pottawatomie County Unified Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) with the Center for Public Health Practice.

The Center for Public Health Practice emerged after a group of over 700 Oklahomans from 7 major sectors, accomplished an evaluation of the statewide COVID emergency response from a public health perspective. The findings were clear in that public health in Oklahoma needed to be re-shaped in order to achieve our vision: a state of health. Our small team within The Center For Public Health Practice is operationalizing the experiences and key lessons of our partners by equipping leaders to establish and bolster thriving communities of public health practice.

This year, ten dedicated organizations are joining forces to conduct a comprehensive health survey, aiming to reach 3600 respondents! This unified effort is a game-changer for Pottawatomie County, representing a significant milestone in our commitment to community well-being. We are excited to race together towards that goal and collect the first batch of paper-completed surveys before the survey closes on February 29th.

For the past year, the Center for Public Health Practice staff and CHNA task force have worked tirelessly to bring forth an enhanced process that will deliver a 360-degree view of the health needs and resources in Pottawatomie County, and the survey is now LIVE. The CHNA is not just a survey; it's a community-wide pulse check that seeks to identify and address key health issues for ALL residents.

Your voice matters! The information gathered from the Community Health Survey, Community Health Conversations, and secondary data sources will shape the future of health programs, policies, and services in Pottawatomie County. Take the survey at https://www.gopogo.org/chna.

Join the Center for Public Health Practice on this transformative journey towards a healthier community! Together, let's create positive change and build a stronger, more resilient Oklahoma for generations to come.
