Rising Star in Public Health: Kalyn Neighbors Wins Prestigious Joan K. Leavitt Award

Kalyn Neighbors, MPH Epidemiology student, was awarded the Joan K. Leavitt award by the Oklahoma Public Health Association at its annual meeting September 23. The award is given to an outstanding public health student who demonstrates leadership abilities and shows promise for a career in public health.

Kalyn works as a Graduate Research Assistant in the department and serves as the Hudson College of Public Health Student Association president and student liaison for the Office of Sovereignty, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. She is the recipient of other awards and scholarships, notably the Best Poster award while participating in the Native American Research Center for Health (NARCH) summer undergraduate program.  That research is currently being developed into a manuscript for publication. Kalyn has a passion for improving the health of persons in Oklahoma, especially persons from underserved communities.
