OEH Staff Member Ravi Gor Wins Best Poster Award at Stephenson Cancer Center Research Symposium
Published: Wednesday, April 16, 2025
Ravi Gor, a staff member in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health at the Hudson College of Public Health, was recently recognized for his outstanding research at the 2025 Stephenson Cancer Center Research Symposium. Ravi received the Best Poster Presentation Award (2nd Place) in the Cancer Prevention and Control track, a highly competitive category highlighting impactful and innovative work in cancer research.
His poster presentation showcased preliminary data revealing that tobacco-specific nitrosamines (NNN)—at exposure levels relevant to human cigarette smoke—increase cancer stem cell markers in head and neck cancer cells. This groundbreaking finding marks the first report to demonstrate such an effect, offering critical insights into how cigarette smoke exposure during treatment may contribute to cancer recurrence.
Ravi has dedicated countless hours to advancing this project, and his recognition at the symposium is a testament to both his hard work and the importance of this research in the field of cancer prevention and control.
Please join us in congratulating Ravi on this well-earned honor!
