Manager of Biostatistics at Bristol Myers Squibb

Sarah "Liz" Johnston, Ph.D., (2020-2021)

Liz just completed the Ph. D. program at the University of Oklahoma Health and Sciences Center in Biostatistics. After graduation, she accepted a job with Bristol Myers Squibb as a Manager, Biostatistics in the cell therapy department. She grew up in OKC and lived in Austin Texas while earning a BS in applied mathematics at Texas State University. While obtaining her bachelor's degree she learned that she was wanted to pursue a career in the medical field, specifically getting safe and effective drugs to patients suffering from disease. In 2013 she started the MS in biostatistics program at OUHSC and after graduating accepted a job at T.H. Chan Harvard Public Health researching HIV treatment. Through this work experience, her passion for biostatistics grew and motivated her to come back to OUHSC to obtain a Ph. D. The Ph. D. program at OUHSC gave her the necessary support and tools to obtain a summer internship at Regeneron pharmaceuticals. Her main research interest is in adaptive clinical trial designs, data-driven methods for subgroup discovery, and procedures allowing for multiple hypothesis testing. Regarding becoming a Hudson Fellow Liz said “I was honored to be named a Hudson Fellow, not only did it allow me to focus on research I was truly passionate about but it also gave me the confidence that I was qualified enough to apply for the position I have earned as a clinical trials statistician.”
