Dr. Cox is the Associate Dean for Public Health Practice and has a secondary appointment as a clinical professor in the OU College of Medicine’s Department of Family Medicine. He is the former Commissioner of the Oklahoma State Department of Health. Dr. Cox has over 50 years of public health experience in Oklahoma, serving previously as Director of Health in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. He works to achieve collective goals of public health education, health workforce development, and partnerships with governmental public health and community organizations. Not only has Dr. Cox served as the only public health professional to lead all three public health departments in Oklahoma, he has also had the honor of serving on the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) Board for ten years—culminating in serving as President of NACCHO in 2008-2009. NACCHO represents almost 3,000 local public health departments.
