Biostatistics and Epidemiology Research Design and Analysis Center (BSE RDAC)

The Biostatistics and Epidemiology Research Design and Analysis Center (BSE RDAC), in the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology in the OUHSC Hudson College of Public Health, provides biostatistical and epidemiological expertise and collaborative support for research initiated by OUHSC investigator and community partners. Faculty, staff, and graduate research assistants in the BSE RDAC provide expertise in areas ranging from formulation of research questions, research design, study implementation and monitoring, data collection and management, data analysis, and dissemination of findings.

The BSE RDAC’s mission includes:

  • Serving the Health Sciences campus, along with public, community, and private health entities by providing biostatistical and epidemiological support for research projects and programs that involve clinical or health data
  • Collaborating with University personnel to explore and develop joint research projects
  • Developing research and training grants in the areas of biostatistics, epidemiology, data management, or informatics

The BSE RDAC staff consists of faculty biostatisticians, MS-trained research biostatisticians and a MS-trained programmer/analyst. The Center also employs graduate research assistants who are enrolled in the Department's PhD, MS, and MPH programs in Biostatistics or Epidemiology. Members of the BSE RDAC actively collaborate with researchers on all aspects of the research process, including formulation of research questions, design, implementation, monitoring, data collection, capture and management, analysis, and dissemination of research results. The array of expertise and personnel appointments (ranging from student GRAs to faculty) provides flexibility so research teams can efficiently and economically meet project demands.

Services

Expertise and collaborative support is available to:

  • Formulate research questions that are well-defined, measurable, and answerable
  • Develop research designs and study protocols
  • Calculate sample size and power for grant proposals and other projects
  • Develop analysis plans
  • Develop data forms, surveys, and questionnaires
  • Develop databases and plan data management
  • Analyze data
  • Develop and implement data and safety monitoring plans
  • Produce graphical and tabular summaries of research findings

Investigators are encouraged to contact BSE RDAC personnel early in the research planning stage to ensure formulation of a measureable question and implementation of a robust, feasible design with high quality data collection.

Education & Training

Please contact us for information on how BSE RDAC personnel can give guest lectures and seminars on topics related to biostatistical and epidemiologic methods, including study design and data analysis.

Fees

BSE RDAC faculty, staff, and student graduate research assistants are funded on a fee-for-service basis through project contractual arrangements and research grant support. BSE RDAC personnel do not charge for initial meetings between project investigators and Center faculty or staff to discuss new projects.
