The mission of the Stephenson Cancer Center (SCC) is to eliminate cancer in Oklahoma, the SCC’s catchment area, and beyond. As a means to advance this mission and to increase cancer surveillance in Oklahoma, a series of reports of “Cancer Issues in Oklahoma”, the “Cancer in Oklahoma Data Brief Series” and “Cancer InFocus Oklahoma” are presented. These data are essential for cancer surveillance in Oklahoma, as they define some of the major cancer problems in Oklahoma and provide general and focused insight on current cancer trends in Oklahoma.
SCC’s ultimate goal is to reduce the burden of cancer in Oklahoma. Within SCC, Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) aims to promote research on cancer-relevant issues specific to SCC catchment area, engage populations into clinical studies, decrease cancer incidence and mortality rates in SCC’s catchment area through the development, implementation and evaluation of health policy, and lastly partner with community-based entities with aligned missions to extend the impact of SCC activities.
Cancer InFocus Oklahoma is an interactive map that provides intelligible and easily accessible cancer data for all Oklahomans including researchers, clinicians, policy makers and the general public, while contributing to the SCC’s research pipeline by exposing issues that could necessitate further research.
