OU Online Launches Online Master of Public Health

Published: Thursday, November 9, 2023

The University of Oklahoma is launching a new online public health degree to prepare students and professionals in the health care industry for job advancement.

The online Master of Public Health in Population and Community Health offered through OU Online and OU’s Hudson College of Public Health is suited for graduate students and professionals working in the health care, public policy or community-based organization sectors, such as medicine, dentistry, nursing, social work and public administration. The 45-hour graduate program can be completed 100% online in as little as two years.

“OU Online is excited to partner with the OU Hudson College of Public Health to make this degree more accessible to those looking to advance their careers or gain a better understanding of public health strategies,” said Gregg Garn, vice president for online learning at OU.

“As the regional leader in online learning, we are always looking to add programs that train students to be ready for the workforce as soon as they graduate,” he added. “Jobs in the public health sector are growing at a faster-than-average rate, and we are proud to offer a program that will help fill needed jobs in this area.”

The OU Hudson College of Public Health is the only accredited public health college in Oklahoma and one of only 67 CEPH-accredited schools of public health.

The new online MPH, taught by the college’s world-class faculty, will further the college’s mission to provide quality graduate and professional education for both public health professionals and research scientists in an area where related occupations are expected to grow at a faster-than-average rate, said Dr. Dale Bratzler, dean of the Hudson College of Public Health.

“The broad range of topics that public health officials address, along with the COVID-19 pandemic and other national events over the last few years, has raised the field of public health to new heights of awareness. As the scope and severity of public health challenges increase, there is a growing need for public health professionals,” Bratzler said. “The online MPH will give graduates a competitive edge by offering an accessible and flexible way to gain the advanced skills necessary to lead in this emerging industry.”

Applications are now open for the MPH. Classes will begin in spring 2024.
