Henry Blake

Blake Henry, CIH, CSP, 2023 Young Alumni Award Recipient!

J. Blake Henry, CIH, CSP earned his MS in Industrial Hygiene and Environmental Health Sciences in 2016. A native of Altus, Oklahoma, Blake received his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from OU Norman.

Blake became interested in a career in industrial hygiene because it appealed to his desire to engage both his mind and his hands and to keep people safe. His master’s thesis titled “Investigating the Impact of Facial Hair Length on Respirator Fit”, under the mentorship of Dr. Evan Floyd, was the basis for a peer-reviewed article in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene.

Blake’s early career trajectory exemplifies the program objectives for our MS in IH/EHS. His field practice experience at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico led to a regular job as an industrial hygienist. Blake earned the Certified Industrial Hygienist credential in 2021. He then added the Certified Safety Professional credential in 2022, shortly after transferring to Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.

Blake has more than 11 years of experience making real-time decisions and implementing controls to protect customer’s safety, health and finances.

As the beneficiary of our internship pipeline with Los Alamos National Laboratory, Blake is currently working on establishing a pipeline between our department and Oak Ridge. The department values his engagement and congratulates him on his early career accomplishments.
