2022 Occupational & Environmental Health Young Alumni Professional Award

Tyler Jackson

Tyler Jackson, MS, 2022 Young Alumni Professional Award Recipient!

The 2022 Young Alumni Professional Award recipient for the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health is Mr. Tyler Jackson, a 2012 Master of Science in Environmental Health alumnus.
A second-generation public health practitioner, Tyler came to Oklahoma for a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health at East Central University in Ada. Following an internship at the Phillips 66 refinery in Ponca City during his second year in the master’s program, Tyler accepted an offer of regular full-time employment as an Industrial Hygienist/Safety Specialist at the Ponca City refinery. In his 10 years at Phillips 66, Tyler advanced to Health and Safety Team Lead at the Billings, Montana refinery and is now Senior Industrial Hygienist back at the Ponca City refinery.
Tyler stands out among young alumni professionals in the extent to which he has shared practical knowledge with the broader health and safety profession. This started at the 2013 American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Exposition, where Tyler gave a well-received podium presentation on a benchtop comparison study he did on benzene detector during his internship.
Since then he has presented at a meeting of the Oklahoma Section of the American Industrial Hygiene Association and at the Oklahoma Safety Council’s annual conference on the very timely topic of protecting workers from respirable silica. He has also served as a field practice preceptor to OEH students.
