Published: Friday, November 18, 2022

Abigail Hann, MPH ’21, received the New Presenter Award from the Genomics Forum at the American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Conference that took place in Boston, November 6-9, 2022. Abigail’s presentation is titled, “Incorporating Genetic Testing and Counseling into Autism Clinic Service Provision Through Primary Care and Medical Genetics Partnership.”

Working with Ann Chou, PhD, MPH, Professor at the College of Medicine, Abigail analyzed data from a large, multi-state health care system to examine the impact of an innovative care delivery model that integrates primary care and genomic medicine. They found that systematic genetic testing was ordered more consistently with integrated service delivery, improving patient access and care, leading to appropriate diagnoses, which in turn affect insurance coverage, health counseling, treatment, and future planning.

Abigail is currently based in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. They serve as the Project ECHO Coordinator for the Heartland Regional Genetics Network, Research and Policy Data Analyst for the Focus Forward Oklahoma Program, and the National Information Reporting System Data Coordinator for both the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities and the Oklahoma Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities Program.
