HCOPH Student Helps with Sensory Friendly Vaccine Clinic For Kids With Autism

Published: Thursday, August 4, 2022

Through the Association of University Centers on Disability (AUCD) and Oklahoma Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (OKLEND) local outreach project, Chantelle Ballard, an interdisciplinary student in the Department of Health Administration and Policy, along with others from the Center for Learning and Leadership connected with the Autism Foundation of Oklahoma to be a part of the sensory-friendly vaccine clinics. Through these clinics, mini-sensory kits were given to participants and their children to help during the entire process of getting the vaccine.

At a recent clinic at Crossover Health Services connected us with the Tulsa Health Department, they were able to procure more mini-sensory kits to provide at mobile clinics and local back to school events that offer vaccines to children throughout 14 additional sites.

Lead on, Chantelle!
