The OU Hudson College of Public Health is proud to announce that its namesake, Dr. Leslie Simcox Hudson, has been honored with the 2025 Distinguished Community Service Award in recognition of her extraordinary, career-long commitment to advancing public health, education, and community well-being. The award was presented at the OU College of Medicine’s annual Evening of Excellence gala, a celebration recognizing individuals who have made transformative contributions to health and medicine in Oklahoma.
An alumna of the college’s epidemiology program, Dr. Hudson began her professional journey as a faculty member in biostatistics and epidemiology. Her early academic work laid a foundation for a lifelong dedication to service, leadership, and philanthropy. Together with her husband, Clifford Hudson, she has invested deeply in the future of the public health workforce by establishing scholarships and fellowships that support students pursuing careers in the field. She continues to shape the college’s mission and direction as an active member of its advisory board.
Dr. Hudson’s influence extends far beyond the university. She played a pivotal role in the founding of the Oklahoma City–County Health Department and continues to serve the organization as a board member. She also serves as a trustee of the Kirkpatrick Family Fund, where she advocates for initiatives that expand access to care and strengthen support for vulnerable populations across Oklahoma.
Throughout her career, Dr. Hudson has championed efforts that have made a lasting difference in community health. She has been instrumental in reducing teen birth rates in Oklahoma County, strengthening youth health initiatives, and advancing organizations such as Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma and Thrive: A Sexual Health Collective for Youth. Her leadership has helped build healthier communities and create opportunities for future public health leaders.
Known as a quiet force who brings people together, Dr. Hudson is admired for her empathy, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to service. Her work continues to inspire colleagues, students, and community partners alike.
