Hudson Amazing Race Highlights Global Cultures and a Strong Sense of Belonging

At the Hudson College of Public Health, community goes beyond the classroom—it’s something you can taste, experience, and celebrate together.

This spring, the Office of Sovereignty, Opportunity, Belonging and Engagement, in partnership with the Hudson College of Public Health Student Association (HCOPHSA), hosted the second annual “Hudson Amazing Race: Culture & Cuisine Edition.” The event invited attendees to step away from their daily routines and into a vibrant, global experience in HCOPH 150. Designed to highlight the college’s commitment to belonging, participants were encouraged to come dressed in traditional attire and proudly represent their cultures—creating a space where identities were not only welcomed, but celebrated.

The event transformed the room into an international journey, complete with music and decorations representing each culture. Attendees “visited” countries including Nigeria, Nepal, and Germany, where they explored traditions while sampling authentic cuisine sourced from local restaurants. The experience wasn’t just about tasting new foods—it was about sparking curiosity, conversation, and connection.

Working in teams, participants took part in a friendly competition to identify ingredients in each dish, combining cultural exploration with a bit of strategy and fun. Laughter and collaboration filled the room as teams compared guesses and learned from one another, reinforcing the idea that diversity strengthens both community and learning.

A highlight of the event was the global dessert bar, which featured sweet treats inspired by Australia, India, Mexico, and Iran—offering another opportunity for attendees to experience flavors from around the world and celebrate the richness of different cultures.

After the competition, the celebration continued with a shared meal, giving everyone more time to connect and reflect on the experience together.
