Event date: 4/10/2025 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM iCal Export

The Hudson College of Public Health will host the Edward N. Brandt, Jr. Memorial Lecture on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Edward N. Brandt, Jr. Auditorium and via Zoom. This annual lecture, established in collaboration with the OU College of Medicine, honors the late Dr. Edward N. Brandt, Jr., a former Assistant Secretary of Health (1981-1984) and distinguished faculty member at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Brandt’s leadership and influence on public policy, particularly during the AIDS crisis of the early 1980s, remain a defining legacy in public health.

This year’s guest lecturer is John Paul Jameson, Ph.D., executive director for CALM America and Professor of Psychology at Appalachian State University. Dr. Jameson will present "A Path Forward: Practical Clinical and Policy Approaches to Firearm Suicide Prevention Health." His expertise in mental health, suicide prevention, and public policy offers valuable insights into one of the most pressing public health issues today.

The Edward N. Brandt, Jr. Memorial Lecture serves as a platform for advancing critical discussions in public health, continuing Dr. Brandt’s legacy of evidence-based policy and advocacy. Faculty, students, healthcare professionals, and community members are encouraged to attend and engage in this important conversation.
