The American Statistical Association has selected Dr. Sixia Chen to serve as Program Chair for the Survey Research Methods Section (SRMS), one of the organization’s largest and most active sections.

In this nationally recognized leadership role, Chen will lead the development of the SRMS scientific program for the Joint Statistical Meetings, the largest annual gathering of statisticians and data scientists in North America. His responsibilities will include organizing invited sessions, topic-contributed sessions, short courses, and related programming that highlight emerging research and innovations in survey methodology and its applications.

The Survey Research Methods Section brings together researchers and practitioners from academia, government and industry across the United States and internationally to advance the science and practice of survey research. The Program Chair position is filled through a competitive selection process and reflects sustained contributions and leadership within the survey research community.

“Dr. Chen’s appointment to this important leadership role is a testament to his outstanding contributions to survey research methodology and his continued engagement within the national statistical community,” said Jennifer Peck, interim chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology. “This recognition not only highlights Dr. Chen’s expertise and professional accomplishments, but also enhances the visibility of the University of Oklahoma, the Hudson College of Public Health and our department within the broader public health and statistical research communities.”

The Joint Statistical Meetings attracts thousands of participants from around the world each year and serves as a major forum for presenting new research, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and helping shape future directions in statistics and data science.

Chen’s appointment further elevates the visibility of the Hudson College of Public Health within the broader statistical and public health research communities while reinforcing the college’s commitment to advancing innovative research and academic leadership.
