ONIE’s Wellness Produce Box Brings Fresh, Local Food to Campus — Expansion to Norman and Tulsa in the Works

ONIE’s Wellness Produce Box Brings Fresh, Local Food to Campus — Expansion to Norman and Tulsa in the Works

Published: Friday, July 18, 2025

The Oklahoma Nutrition Information and Education (ONIE) Project, housed within the Hudson College of Public Health, is bringing the farm to campus—literally.

In collaboration with LiveWell OU and the OKC Food Hub, ONIE has launched the Wellness Produce Box Pilot Program, an innovative effort to make fresh, Oklahoma-grown fruits and vegetables more accessible to the OU Health Sciences community. Since launching this spring, the program has seen strong engagement and enthusiasm, prompting organizers to explore expanding to OU-Norman and OU-Tulsa in 2026.

The Local Food for Wellness Program delivers boxes of seasonal, locally sourced produce directly to the HSC campus every other week through October. Participants can choose between two share sizes—Small ($35) or Large ($50)—and enjoy flexibility in scheduling and box customization. Every order includes produce from Oklahoma farms, complete with details about the growers and tips for preparing what’s in season.

“We’re connecting people with where their food comes from while making it easier to eat well,” said the ONIE team. “This is about building a healthier campus and supporting local agriculture at the same time.”

How to Get Involved

OU Health Sciences Center employees can still sign up now to participate for the remainder of the 2025 growing season. Whether you're looking to boost your health, try new recipes, or support Oklahoma farmers, this is an easy and delicious way to do it.

Faculty, staff, and students at OU-Norman and OU-Tulsa are also encouraged to complete a short interest form to help ONIE coordinate future expansion to those campuses.
