Exploring Cardiovascular Health: Steven Pan's Breakthrough Research

We are thrilled to share a remarkable achievement by Steven Pan, a distinguished researcher affiliated with the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the Hudson College of Public Health, OUHSC. 

Steven Pan, as the leading author and Principal Investigator of the STAR Program of the Strong Heart Study, has contributed groundbreaking research that has been accepted for publication in Preventive Medicine. The paper, titled "Associations of Pedometer-Measured Ambulatory Activity with Incidence of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Diseases: Strong Heart Family Study," dives deep into the impact of ambulatory activity on coronary heart disease in American Indian populations.

Utilizing pedometer data and comprehensive lifestyle and clinical factors from 2,492 participants in the Strong Heart Family Study, Steven's research uncovered compelling associations. Participants with a daily step count in the 4th quartile (>7,282 steps per day) exhibited significantly lower odds of developing coronary heart disease compared to those in the 1st quartile (<3010 steps per day), even after adjusting for potential confounders (p=0.035).

The implications of Steven's research extend far beyond the partner tribal communities associated with the Strong Heart Study.
