MHA Professor Investigates Federally Qualified Health Centers’ Operations and Financial Performance, Finds a Need for Greater Federal Scrutiny

Dr. Ganisher “Gani” Davlyatov, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Administration and Policy, published a report investigating the lack of oversight of government funding for Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC). Gani worked with Dale Galewitz, a Keiser Health News Reporter, to identify FQHCs with high profit margins. Many Centers heavily rely on federal funding to provide care to the nation’s poor but they should be helping the local community. Instead, some FQHCs are reporting record profit margins. Furthermore, FQHCs do not necessarily expand to areas with higher uninsured populations.  In conclusion, they found there is a need for greater federal scrutiny of the grant money expenditure.
