Published: Monday, November 15, 2021
Twelve students from our Master of Health Administration program attended the 11th annual MHSA/MHA Regional Case Competition at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. The KUMC competition is continually noted as a high-value educational experience for participating students. This year’s competition was held in a virtual environment with 17 student teams on both first-year and second-year tracks participating from five schools: Saint Louis University, University of Iowa, University of Missouri-Columbia, University of Oklahoma, and University of Kansas. Student teams presented their solutions to a case written by Collin Cooper, MHSA, “Hospitals at Home – The Digitization and Migration of Healthcare to Remote Inpatient Care Settings”, which specifically tasked students with developing a 5-year strategic plan to address the growing trend of technology-enabled virtual care for LMH Health. Judging the competition, in addition to LMH Health senior leadership, were over 50 alumni from participating programs. Student teams with the top score advanced out of each virtual room to the final round, where teams presented their solutions to a new set of judges with the highest score from each room determining the overall winners. Of the 14 first-year teams, our MHA program had two teams make the final round. Kara Cornell and Hudson Hill took first place for the second- year teams! In total, the 2021 virtual event hosted over 120 students, faculty volunteers, and alumni judges from across the country.
