Each year, the Office of Alumni Affairs at the Hudson College of Public Health awards an annual Distinguished Alumni Award and Young Alumni Professional Achievement Award to outstanding alumni from each Department within the College. Recipients of these prestigious awards are recognized for achieving professional and personal successes, and demonstrating exemplary service to their community and/or the University.

The 2022 Young Alumni Professional Award recipient for Interdisciplinary Public Health is Ms. Sara C. Low, a 2016 MPH gradudate.

Sara earned a Certification in Public Health from the National Board of Health Examiners.

Throughout her career, she has demonstrated outstanding leadership related to her field, and has achieved distinctive and notable accomplishments professionally and through community service.

Sara has worked in the area of health equity and access since she was in graduate school. In her practicum work with the Oklahoma City Planning Department, Sara modified a field tool and evaluated Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance at key bus stops in Oklahoma City.

In 2018, Sara was identified as OU Medicine’s first Healthcare Champion for her efforts to improve access to HPV vaccines in Oklahoma. In her work to increase vaccine access, she collaborated with physicians at OU Health and other key stakeholders including the American Cancer Society, Merck, and the Oklahoma State Department of Health, to identify barriers to vaccine access and determine solutions to overcome those barriers.

Sara joined the Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) in December 2018 as a Program Officer. In this position, she provides guidance, consultation, and training to grantees across the state related to best and promising practices on topics in tobacco control, physical activity and nutrition and other related health areas.

Her major project is the Healthy Living Program, a 5-year community-based initiative that focuses on areas of high need throughout the state in order to provide targeted public health interventions.

Sara has demonstrated outstanding leadership related to her field and has achieved notable accomplishments recognizing her leadership qualities, contributions to public service and enthusiasm to improve the quality of life in her community, city, and state.
