Professor Hann serves as Chair of the Department of Health Promotion Sciences (HPS), and works with HPS Faculty who train students to become builders and translators of scientific knowledge and conduct research for the advancement of individual, family, and community health. As the Director of Experiential Learning, Director of the Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) program, and Liaison to the Oklahoma State Department of Health for the College, Professor Hann has been a critical leader in strengthening efforts in experiential learning for MPH and BPH students. Prior to joining the University of Oklahoma, he dedicated 34 years of service to the Oklahoma State Department of Health. During this time, he led several important initiatives that have improved public health efforts in Oklahoma. As Assistant Deputy Commissioner, Professor Hann provided oversight for 68 county health departments and major program areas: WIC, MCH, Sooner Start, Child Guidance, Family Support and Prevention, Record Evaluation, and Dental Health. As Chief of the Community Development Service, he led the activities of a major service area focused on building healthy communities through collaborative partnerships. With the support of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, he implemented the successful Turning Point initiative in Oklahoma.
