Dr. Toluwanimi Oni is an Assistant Professor of Research at the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health. Dr. Oni earned a BS in Physiology and a MPH in Environmental Health from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and a PhD in Occupational and Environmental Health from the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Oni’s research interests are focused on exposure assessment, health effects of environmental exposures (electronic cigarettes, tobacco smoke, air pollution and metals), gene-environment interactions and causal mediation analysis. During his graduate studies, Dr. Oni received 3 pilot project funding awards to 1.) develop a simplified method for sampling and analysis of nicotine from electronic cigarettes, 2.) assess nicotine and particulate matter levels at vape shops and, 3.) develop and test the efficacy of a novel tool for reducing nicotine and particulate matter levels in indoor settings.  Currently, Dr. Oni is involved in studies exploring causal pathways between metals’ exposures and neurological diseases/disorders.
