Degree Programs and Certificate Programs

The Hudson College of Public Health offers both professional and graduate degrees, as well as several certificates.

Professional

Professional degrees, the Master of Public Health (MPH) and the Master of Health Administration (MHA), are considered practice degrees. The intent of the public health professional degree programs is to academically train public health professional practitioners to enter and eventually lead the public health workforce.  Professional degrees at the master’s level incorporate a practicum experience (MPH) or an internship (MHA), giving the professional student the opportunity to gain work experience in the chosen field of concentration.

Master of Public Health

Detailed information is available in the Student Bulletin.

Master of Health Administration

Graduate

Graduate public health degrees, the Master of Science (MS) and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees are considered to be preparation for research. These degrees provide research experience and require a traditional thesis for the master’s degree and dissertation for the doctoral degree.

Master of Science

Doctor of Philosophy

*Prerequisites

All Master Programs: Minimum Academic Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Grade point average of 3.0 or above calculated using the upper-division coursework  of the bachelor’s degree*

All Master of Public Health (MPH) Programs: Additional Requirement

  • All MPH applicants are required to have some mathematics in their undergraduate program. College Algebra will meet this requirement.

MS in Biostatistics: Additional Prerequisites or Requirements

  • Calculus and Analytic Geometry I.  Topics covered include equations of straight lines, conic sections; functions, limits and continuity; differentiation; maximum-mimimum theory and curve sketching.
  • Calculus and Analytic Geometry II.  Integration and its applications; the calculus of transcendental functions; techniques of integration; and the introduction to differential equations.
  • Calculus and Analytic Geometry III.  Polar coordinates, parametric equations, sequences, infinite series, vector analysis.
  • Calculus and Analytic Geometry IV.  Vector calculus; functions of several variables; partial derivatives; gradients, extreme values and differentials of multivariate functions; multiple integrals; line and surface integrals.

MS in Industrial Hygiene/Environmental Health Sciences: Additional Prerequisite or Requirement

  • Master of Science (MS) in industrial hygiene/environmental health sciences requires some specific undergraduate coursework. Information available here.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs: Minimum Academic Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Graduate GPA of 3.5 is required for the doctoral programs in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Health Promotion Sciences; the OEH Department requires a minimum GPA of 3.30 in graduate coursework for the PhD in Occupational and Environmental Health.
