Xi "Sophia" Chen, Ph.D., (2017-2022)

Sophia obtained an MD degree from China Medical University in 2011, which sparked her interest in medical research. She decided to pursue a career in Biostatistics and earned her MS and PhD degrees in Biostatistics from Hudson College of Public Health in 2016 and 2022, respectively. During her time as a graduate student, Sophia worked as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Research Design and Analysis Center. Her work has been nationally recognized by the professional community, and she has published several articles in peer-reviewed publications as either the first author or co-author. Sophia's dissertation research focused on developing a method for integrating genetic associations into statistical models under the Bayesian framework using data from the Strong Heart Family Study. This research has potential applications in medical research and could help to improve our understanding of the genetic factors that contribute to various diseases.

After graduating in 2022, Sophia started working as a Research Biostatistician in the Department of Biostatistics at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Her expertise in medicine and Biostatistics allows her to provide valuable insights to comprehensive cancer research projects. Sophia is extremely appreciative for the support she received from the Hudson Fellowship during her PhD program, “The fellowship has not only afforded me with time flexibility to focus on my dissertation, but also boosted my confidence and pride in my career by acknowledging the effort I invested in my academic and research work.”
