Dr. Ali has years of experience doing epidemiological research, teaching, and mentoring. His areas of research interest are listed above. He has been serving as the Principal Investigator of the Strong Heart Study Oklahoma Field Center. The Strong Heart Study is an ongoing cohort study of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors among American Indian men and women, and is one of the largest prospective epidemiological studies of American Indians ever undertaken. The Strong Heart Study is a multi-center study funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. The study maintains field centers in Oklahoma, North and South Dakota, and Arizona. The Strong Heart Study also serves as a platform for in-depth ancillary studies that are funded outside of the Strong Heart Study; Dr. Ali has been the Principal Investigator for the Oklahoma Center for 10 such NIH-funded ancillary studies. By virtue of this extensive research experience, Dr. Ali developed has been involved in developing numerous grant proposals and has produced several peer-reviewed publications.
He teaches selected subjects for Chronic Disease Epidemiology, Scientific Integrity in Research, and Public Health Training courses. He has been training and mentoring graduate students and research staff on various aspects of epidemiological research.
